Goal: Tell 1 in 3 to Keep What They Have
How it works

Three simple steps. No tech vocabulary required.

01
We figure out your device
We detect it automatically or ask a couple of everyday questions — no brand or model required.
02
We do the comparing
Behind the scenes we stack your device against newer options, using real tests — not marketing. You see none of that.
03
You get a clear answer
One plain-language recommendation — upgrade, wait, or keep what you have — with a short reason why.
Why we're different

Honest advice, not another sales pitch

We'll tell you not to buy
If your current device still does the job, we'll say so — even if it means you skip the purchase entirely.

Most tech sites exist to sell you something. They rank, recommend, and review — but the underlying assumption is always that you will buy. That's the business model.

We do the opposite. Every match starts by looking at what you already own and asking: does upgrading actually make your life better? About 1 in 3 people who use TMA are told to keep what they have. That's not bad for business — it's what builds the trust that brings you back the next time you really do need to upgrade.

Plain language, no jargon
You won't need to know what RAM, TDP, or "refresh rate" means. We do the translating.

Tech reviews love their specs: "12-core M3 Pro, 16GB unified memory, 1TB SSD, 120Hz ProMotion display." That's all real information — but it doesn't tell you whether this laptop will handle your daily work any better than the one sitting on your desk.

Our recommendations translate specs into what they mean in real life. Instead of "8GB vs 16GB RAM," we say "your current laptop will start slowing down when you have more than a few tabs open; the recommended one won't." Same information, human language.

No sponsored rankings. Ever.
Brands can't pay to rank higher. Our recommendations are based on your needs, not on who paid us.

Almost every "best laptops of 2025" list you'll find online has product placements buried in it. The sites make money by featuring what pays them, not what's best for you. It's hard to tell which is which — and that's exactly the point.

TMA does earn a small commission (about 5%) when you buy through our links, but that rate is the same for every product we recommend. Our algorithm doesn't know about commissions — it only sees your needs and the real performance data. If you find a better price somewhere else, buy there. We'd rather you get the right product than feel obligated to us.

Under two minutes, no sign-up
Answer a few everyday questions. No account, no email. You get your answer and move on with your day.

Looking things up online is exhausting. You end up with twelve tabs open, three YouTube reviews contradicting each other, and a shopping cart you feel guilty about. Two hours later you're more confused than when you started.

TMA is built to give you a clear answer fast. The questions are simple — what you have, what you do, what matters to you — and then the answer. You can always come back later if your situation changes, but you won't need to create an account or hand over your email just to get a recommendation.

Questions people ask

Everything you might be wondering

Is this really free? What's the catch?
Yes, it's genuinely free. You can use it as many times as you want without creating an account or giving us your email. We make money only when someone we helped decides to buy through our links — a small commission paid by the retailer, not by you. You pay the same price whether you click our link or go directly. The "catch," if you want to call it one, is that we think a free tool that sometimes tells you NOT to buy ends up building more trust (and repeat visits) than a paid one that always pushes a sale.
Will you really tell me not to upgrade?
Yes, regularly. About 1 in 3 people who use TechMatch are told their current device still fits their needs and an upgrade isn't worth it. We look at what you already own and what you actually do with it. If a newer model won't meaningfully improve your daily life, we say so — and give you a rough idea of when it might be worth revisiting the question. No guilt, no pressure.
Do I need to know anything about technology?
Not at all. The questions are written in everyday language: what do you use it for, how long have you had it, what frustrates you about it. You'll never be asked about gigabytes, processors, or refresh rates. The answer you get back is the same — plain English explaining what's right for you and why.
How do I know the recommendation isn't just whatever pays you most?
Fair question. Our system doesn't know what commission each product pays — the algorithm only sees real test results, prices, and your needs. Every retailer we work with pays us a similar rate (around 5%), so there's no incentive to push one product over another. And if you find a better price elsewhere, we encourage you to buy there. Our goal is being the site you trust enough to come back to, not the one that squeezes every purchase.
What if I don't like the recommendation?
You always see your top 3 options, not just one. Each runner-up includes a short "why this instead of #1" note so you can see the trade-offs. If none of them fit, you can adjust your answers and try again, or use the feedback button to tell us what we missed.
What products can I look up?
Right now: laptops, smartphones, headphones, monitors, cameras, wearables, tablets, keyboards, and gaming headsets — about 93 products in total. We're working on adding more categories like smart home devices and storage. If there's something specific you'd like to see, let us know through the contact form.
How is this different from watching YouTube reviews?
YouTube reviews are great if you have time to watch three or four of them and compare. TechMatch gives you the answer in 90 seconds — personalized to you, not to the average viewer. Reviews tell you what's best; we tell you what's best for you, based on what you already have. You can always watch a review of the product we recommend before buying, of course.
I'm not sure how to answer some of the questions. Does that matter?
It's fine to guess, and you can always skip. The more specific you are, the more precise the answer — but even with loose answers you'll still get a useful recommendation. You can also go back and change any answer at any point. There's no wrong way to use it.
Why doesn't the match score ever reach 100%?
Because no product is a perfect fit for any person — there are always small trade-offs we can't see from a few questions. Capping the score at 98% is our way of being honest: this is an excellent fit for what you told us, but there may still be small things about how you work, where you live, or your personal preferences that only you can weigh. It keeps us from overpromising.
